Top of Pulpit Rock

Pulpit Rock is a fun winter hike; it stays snow-free most of the year because it's low in elevation. And it's got some great views from the top - this is looking towards Pikes Peak.
Don't look down if you're afraid of heights.
It's got some great columns at the top.
I think these ones look like stone mushrooms.
Coming back down you can see the steep cliffs that form two sides of the peak. Luckily you don't have to climb these to get to the top.

Socks On Pulpit Rock

I'll post more about Pulpit Rock on Monday, but here are some shots of Socks climbing it. These are from last year, before we got Laika; she also always hikes with me these days.

April Snow Showers

We're in the process of moving so my blogging will be inconsistent for the next few weeks.

If April showers bring May flowers, what does April snow bring?
We had about 9 inches (23 cm) of the stuff on Friday.

Mount Sherman - Summit Ridge

Continuing with my 1997 hike up 14,036 foot-high (4,278 meters) Mount Sherman, here's the ridge looking towards the summit.

Steep Red Stairs

In Red Rock Canyon, these stairs are cut straight up a steep rock face. Socks loved climbing them!
Looking back down gives an idea of their steepness.
I liked the texture of this wood against the rock.

Snowy Dogs

Laika's my summer dog, and she wonders why she has to go out in the snow.
Socks is my winter dog and is happy to play in the snow.
(Of course, they're both my year-round dogs.)

Impending Storm

As I look forward to spring and summer weather, here's a shot from last May. It's common to be in the sunshine and see heavy thunderclouds nearby, and that's what happened here. Time to head back to the car!

Beautiful Rocks

Here are more photos from Red Rock Canyon. I  wonder why it's called that?

Mount Sherman (2)

Here's a view from when I was climbing Mount Sherman, elevation 14,036 feet (4,278 meters), back in 1997.

More Stormy Skies

My mother-in-law passed away last week so I took a few days away from blogging while we buried her. Now I'm back with a stormy Skywatch Friday photo from last summer. It will be thunderstorm season again in a couple of months!
