View From 14,110 Feet

For this week's Skywatch Friday post, here's a view from the sky, atop Colorado's 31st-highest mountain. Our local mountain, Pikes Peak, reaches 14,110 feet (4.3 km) in elevation. I was being a tourist guide for my daughter and her friend on Monday and so we went to the top; more on that in future posts. Here's a view from the top.
It was a somewhat hazy day so the views weren't up to their best standard, but I think that they're impressive anyway. It was also very cold, 32 F (0 C) with 50 MPH (80 kph) winds.

For more views of the sky, visit Skywatch Friday.

  5. Oh wow that's cold! It's still 35 C here! But that view is spectacular. Love all the layers of land you see while looking down! How long does it usually take to climb to the top? :D

  17. Great view! You took a longer hike this time! Looking east from there, the highest peaks are about 6,000 feet in the Appalachians! I have been up there twice, both time near the end of Spring with lots of snow on top.

  18. Great view from up there..I was out that way several years ago and drove through those mountains..and upon reaching Leadville, Colorado..got out of the camper and imeadatly fell right on my behind when stepping out on the street...due to the lack of oxygen..the air up there is quite thin..had to get down to a lower elevation to make camp for the night. }}:-)
