My First Photo

I know that this is a terrible photo, but I'm posting it for sentimental purposes, so try not to laugh too much. As far as I can tell, it's the first photo I ever took, back in April of 1972 when I was growing up. Obviously, it's the Eiffel Tower, probably taken from the Arc de Triumph.
My first camera was a little box that took square photos, and black-and-white film is all I had back then. Despite the poor quality, I hope this photo brings back some memories for other bloggers of their earliest photography attempts.

Having spent many of my early years in Holland, I've got lots more old photos of Europe in case I ever run out of recent photos of the American West (and wherever else I might happen to visit). Europe remains an important part of my world, and I'm sure their are other My World Tuesday bloggers that will post much better shots from it this week! Hopefully I'll get to visit France again one of these years, and get some much better photographs.

  1. Oh, how fun, Al! I love it! It is fun to look back isn't it? And Paris looks good anyway you look at it! Hope you have a great week!

  2. I just think it's great that you still have your first photo. I too started out with a box camera and B&W film. On vacation's my folks would give me one roll of film with 12 photo ops. Those pics are long gone.

  4. Al, I agree with Gaelyn that it's great you still have these wonderful memories. I also started with a box camera (the only one in the family who took photos) and a black and white film. My parents would admonish me not to "waste" film as the developing was expensive. (These photos were in my mum's collection and were lost when she died eight years ago). How I love digital. Thanks for your "nostalgia" world today. Very different; very unique. Have a great week. Blessings from Jo PS I also posted a not-so-good photo for this meme but for different reasons to yours!

  5. How neat! My first photos were of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It was expensive to get a roll of film developed.

  6. How lovely that you still have your first photo. I don't remember what mine was. You've started me thinking now.
I'm just back from a few days in France for work, and it's a delight every time I go there. I hope you can get there soon.

  9. I think already behind that photo was a growing photographer..! The pictures are much better nowadays, the quality etc..

I've been up in the top floor on the Eifel Tower, the height was extremely, and I would not be suprised if my photos became a bit dizzy- even today if I was there to take some photos.... ;)

  10. France was part of our European tour recently and I look forward to posting my pictures of the Eiffel Tower in the near future. Your “old” b/w photo, however, is fantastic as it is taken from a unique distant perspective. Thanks for sharing this interesting photo. :)

  12. That is so nice. A lovely trip down memory lane. I started with a Brownie Box in 1952, doesn't that make me a genuine antique?

  16. Some photos may be "better", but none more heartfelt. I love that this is the first picture of a then budding photographer. The moment must have made a real impression on you for you to remember it so vividly. I wish I had (or could remember) my first photo.
