My Stormy World

Over the last week we've finally been getting some monsoon moisture (the last five days have all followed our classic summer monsoon pattern of morning sunshine with later-day thunderstorms), so I thought I'd show a stormy sky for My World Tuesday since we've seen so many. I took this photo in my front yard, and used GIMP to crop and sharpen it slightly. It's a single 28-second exposure, there's no fancy editing or photo-mixing here.
This storm had so much lightning that I was able to get many photos out of it, and I'll share them over the next few weeks.

  1. Awesome, amazing captures, Al! I haven't seen any lightening to speak up since I've lived in the northwest -- we have lots of rain, but very few if any storms like this! Look forward to seeing more -- I'd rather see these kinds of skies in your photos than for real! Hope you have a great day!

  2. What a capture... I haven't seen lighting like that in years. Don't see much of it in Southern CA.

  3. Great shot! You get some amazing storms out there. I pulled off I-25 some years ago just to watch the lightning as the storm moved east.

  5. Ummm, Al where were you standing when you took that stunning picture? Be safe!

I just scrolled down a ways as I'm catching up -- loved the Lion's Gate Bridge (we've been there) and Agora (we haven't -- wish we had)...I never know whether I more enjoy seeing your pictures of places we love or places we'll probably never get to. Do know I love the mixture!

I love how you included the illuminated house in the frame. Nice job.

  7. Lightning is actually very beautiful, but the thunderclaps are frightening. I was never afraid of thunderstorms until my house was struck by lightning a few years ago, in the middle of the night. Your photo is excellent! Thanks for your visit. So you know my country well? I came here when I was twelve.

    Are you a lightning chaser?

  14. Hiya Al,
The way you use light is fab.
That glow in the foreground adds so much to the sky picture.
