Dead Tree in Vancouver

This week's PicStory theme is wood. While exploring Stanley Park in Vancouver one afternoon, I found this dead tree, held up from within by a metal framework, and I thought it would be a good wooden example.
To replace My World Tuesday, which was retired after its founder Klaus Peter passed away, Arija, Gattina, Lady Fi, Sylvia, and Sandy have started Our World Tuesday. I intend to be a regular participant here and this is my first post for it.

  1. I wonder why they wanted to keep the tree standing? Both are very cool angles ;D

  6. It's good to see that some of the old trees have been preserved.

  7. Ah, yes, some of those old trees became icons in Stanley Park, rivaling the totem poles for attracting tourists, so when they became weakened, they were reinforced and left to stand for years to come.
Great shots. Lots of memories of my working years in downtown Vancouver.

  9. Not sure when you were visiting Vancouver but Stanley Park is a great place to explore. I haven’t been there for a while but in all the times I’ve visited I have never seen metal frames inside dead trees. I wonder if this is something they started after the big storm in 2006. Kay's comment is so true about some trees there becoming icons. :)

  10. A mighty tree will not last forever, alas. We are left to wonder the might that these roots supported, a very large trunk and a multitude of branches and a lot of shade. The tree was mighty, and seeing the stump still standing

  12. Tree snags like that make great homes for birds and maybe that's why they kept it. Great shape.

Glad you found the new "World."

  13. There can be a good reason for preserving a special tree even when it is dead. We have s tree that is held together with concrete end iron struts, that is The Old Gumtree, in it's shade, South Australia was proclaimed a free state made up of free settlers who had bought land here before they came.

A splendid old granddaddy tree you have shown us today. Thanks.

  15. What a wonderful old tree. I like that they gave it some support, keeping it off the ground will slow the decaying process. I like both of your views.

  16. The metal frame in the dead tree might support the tree as a monument as well as the habitat for small creatures and living organisms. Isn’t it nice if a new life germinates from it? I like the sky view seen from the tree.
