For both the Scenic Sunday and Sunday Bridges memes this week, here are a few photos of the Hawthorne Bridge that crosses the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
The span I'm standing on in this photo lifts to let ships pass.
It doesn't show very well in this photo, but the counterweights that help lift the bridge are huge! (And these are some of the few blue skies we saw in our week in the Pacific Northwest.)
I like bridges, and can't resist photographing them when I'm nearby.
That is an amazing bridge and terrific captures for the day as always, Al! It's a very familiar sight to me as I lived in Portland for 14 years before moving to Seattle! Hope you and Socks have a great weekend! Be sure to give him a treat for Sam and I.

Reading the comment of Sylvia, I would love to see more photos of Socks. He looks adorable!
Have a pleasant weekend.
That is an amazing bridge, a magnificent architecture ...great photos..
ReplyDeleteDear greetings Karin
There's something about the line and length, the steely structure and the spread of water that make bridges so compelling! I've got MANY bridge shots - but unlike yours, mine are cliches!!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting scenes.
ReplyDeleteI like all the ducks in the first photo. Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteWonderful shots of the bridge. And the sky is looking beautiful. Great photos. Happy Scenic Sunday!
ReplyDeletehas the bridge ever failed? I was in a lock once, and our boat with 2 little kiddies were yammed inside. Not nice.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful too! Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello.

Wonderful blue skies in your corner of the world - that bridge is very picturesque when viewed from along the river.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you display the bridge. Shows you like them. Very good shots.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, the first bridge that I walked across in Portland, back in January, 2007, during a heavy snow storm. Love these photos. Thanks!
