Signs, Signs is an interesting idea for a meme, although I've not participated before. But when I saw this sign at a local trail-head, I had to take a photo and link it there. I'll post the rest of the photos from this hike later this week.
It didn't stop me from hiking with my dog Socks, and we both survived. I've seen bears (mama with two cubs within 30 feet of me on a trail), coyotes, and I'm pretty certain that we encountered a mountain lion this summer although it quickly moved off the trail. We've even had a bear walk through our front yard. It's a wild area in which I live!
Seriously??!! WoW!! My eyes just fell out of me!! (nearly!)
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting world and mountains you are livling in and by! Now I'm looking so forward to see the rest of your pictures!! A mama bear?! But lions?? I did not know you had wild lions going around there in the mountains/woods.. I would be scared if I walked there and saw this sign.. take care of your dear Socks!
Ah, you do live in a wonderful part of the world! And, of course, you've got a great protector in Socks!! Hope your week is going well, Al!

How exciting, Al! Glad you and Socks had a safe and happy hike. Greetings. Jo
ReplyDeleteit would be my fastest walk ever if I saw that sign!
ReplyDeleteI like the outdoors and I LOVE nature...but mountain lions, not so much.
ReplyDeleteYou are way braver than this old gal. I would have turned around and returned to my car. My husband has bear encounters early in the mornings when he is out jogging, but he seems to know how to handle the situations.Guess they are all asleep now. genie
ReplyDeleteI saw a couple on the Mantracker TV show confronted by a mountain lion do exactly what it says on the sign. The mountain lion backed off.
ReplyDeleteYikes! That would scare the bejesus out of me! I noticed that they didn't mention that when you pick up the children you should slap your hand over their mouth 'cause you just KNOW they'd be screaming their heads off!
ReplyDeleteDon't look them in the eye! Yikes. Stay calm but raise your arms to make like you are large ... double yikes!!
ReplyDeleteMy wildlife is a bit tamer out here on the eastern plains. I've had deer, snakes, foxes, opossums, skunks, (of course), lizards, coyotes, and a few strange dogs. I don't like it when they are literally at my back door, though.♥♫
ReplyDeleteWell I know what to do now! Very useful sign...
ReplyDeleteI like the no eye contact bit. Very respectful. Personally,I would not want to see anything in his eyes!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could make myself look large - I tend to curl up into a fetal position when scared out of my wits.
ReplyDeletePetualangan yang sangat mendebarkan juga menyenangkan....
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome and I am glad to have you joining (I forgot to say that before I pressed publish earlier) I had a little wander through some previous posts - how is the owl doing? You got some great shots of him.
ReplyDeleteYou are very brave enough, however, is very nice to live in the wild !!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Blog!I like your pictures.Have a nice day.Mihelle
ReplyDeleteIt didn't used to stop us (we had mountain lions in the Pacific Northwest and have seen them in the wild), The sign wouldn't stop me now, but the altitude where you live just might!
ReplyDeleteI was always afraid I would get mixed up on what to do if you encounter a mountain lion (be large) and a bear (be small). Good thing whenever we saw either they moved away.
The instructions on the sign are all well and good if you can manage to stay calm and read them. You sound as if you live in an exciting place with all these big creatures around you. I guess enjoy his privilege and keep sharing it please!
ReplyDeleteWow - you live near nature. Just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have had some "exciting" times while out hiking. I have to admit if I encountered a mountain lion in the wild I might be a little frightened. Hope I could remember all those "things" you need to do. Have a great weekend. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Just amazing that you and Socks have seen bears, coyotes and a mountain lion! How great is to live in a wild area.
ReplyDeleteGreat sign to start with signs, signs. And a wonderful post. I like to hike with the possible encounter of wild animals too. And you live in a fantastic area for this.
