Airplane Closeups (and a Bomb)

From our visit to the Wings Over the Rockies museum last year, here are some closeups of airplane parts. Here's the light at the end of a wing.
This one speaks for itself.
This looked like something that would measure windspeed.
And I have no idea about this last one, it was on top of a wing.
And finally, here's an atomic bomb (presumably disarmed since it's in a museum).
Okay, that last shot isn't of the bomb (it was behind an engine), but I thought it was appropriate, and it's my entry for Tina's PicStory theme of "Creative." And it's also part of Our World Tuesday.

  7. Great macros, Al. Makes you realize all these small important parts that help the plane stay aloft! PS I'm having a lot of trouble with the anti spam!

  9. Great shots of very interesting details. My favourite is the one on top of a wing. Love the light and the bokeh. But the atomic bomb gives me the creeps!

  11. The old airplane is cool, the solid structure looking tough. The item with the propellor is cool. I think the thing over the wing maybe covers the flap mechanism. I like the eject handle - the curious might have the urge to see how it works, but the museum has wisely disabled it :)

For a modern use of a prop, the DC-10, there is a little turbine with a prop that drops down in flight, creates electrical power by the prop windmilling in flight if all other sources of power are lost. That could be a problem...

  12. Great shots, I love all of your close ups. My husband and I both enjoy aviation museums, we'll have to check this one out if we get over that way.

  15. These are good shots from an interesting subject. The last shot – isn’t that an additional fuel tank?
