Wildfire Update
The wildfire on the west side of Colorado Springs got into the city this afternoon and an unknown number of houses have burned. I'm watching houses burn near my office on live TV. 32,0000 people have been evacuated including many friends and coworkers. I want to thank everyone for their concern - we live miles away from this fire and our house isn't in any danger from it at this time, but here's a photo from this afternoon from our deck, showing the plume of smoke rising and drifting over our house. That's all smoke - at times all I could see was smoke.
This is my sad entry for Skywatch Friday this week.
it's terribly sad to hear homes have been destroyed. i wonder how someone decides upon evacuation what's important enough to save besides themselves, of course. i'm just glad no one has been hurt. it sounds like everyone was evacuated in time. glad you're still safe & sound. hang in there.
ReplyDeleteOh, Al, thank you for keeping us updated on the situation in Colorado Springs! The news has been frightening! Just holding good thoughts that your house remains safe and that you and your family are safe. Such scary times and so much horror from the western states to Florida -- such extreme opposites! Take care!

Oh, my. This is such sad news for so many people. Your photograph and words tell the story all too well.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to everyone in Colorado Springs ... no matter where you live, it's almost guaranteed you know someone directly affected. Even though we've been gone for over 10 years, my stomach dropped when I looked at the newspaper slideshow. I hear the Flying W ranch has burned down. And many more homes and businesses are affected and/or threatened.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and prayers are with everyone who lives in and near this beautiful City.
Al I am thinking about you. So glad your home is away from danger so far. We have had wild fires that got within 1/2 mile from us and we had to evacuate, so I do feel for you and your friends. Take care and sorry for the losses. Prayers going up.
ReplyDeleteWoW, you see it all the way from your home!! It must be a very big fire! or fires!
ReplyDeleteI'll pray for rain to come!
Take care of you and your family!
This is just awful. Sissy and I have been praying for you and for the people of Colorado Springs. This is a terribly frightening thing. It is hard to believe the fire could come into the city like that.
