Helicopters in Seattle

I found these last couple of photos left over from last year's trip to Seattle. These were taken along the waterfront, catching some type of rescue training by the Coast Guard.
It was probably more interesting to see in person than the photographs show. But it's my post for Our World Tuesday, and it does capture the classic grey Seattle skies (it was raining at the time).

Here's a quick wildfire update. 17,827 acres have burned, 346 homes burned, and 2 people lost their lives. I still can't get back into my office building but I consider myself lucky. Containment is at 55%. Hopefully the worst is over for the fire, but there are a lot of people who have lost everything.

  1. love your picture choice for today. i'd love to have seen this in person too. i bet it was great watching them train.

here's hoping all those who lost their homes in the fire can begin to rebuild soon after the containment of the fires. my heart goes out to those who've lost everything. my thoughts/ prayers are with them.

    have a great day~

  2. HI Al...Seeing that you are where there is plenty of rescue going on, these two photo's are quite fitting as they show how much rescue units are needed in this world wherever we live !!

  3. With the storms, the forest fires etc, etc, etc, I've finally been able to stop whining about the gray, chilly northwest. Great and appropriate shots for the day, Al! Hope things continue to improve in your part of the world! Stay safe and have a good week.

  7. Seattle is one of my favorite places ... even in the rain. I used to watch the coast guard practice on the Gulf Coast. What a wonderful group! I'm so sad for those who have lost everything in the fires and I'm so amazed by the firefighters and can't imagine what it is like to fight the fires in the wind and heat.

  8. Wild pics of the helicopter! Thanks for updating us on the fires. Who would think this would happen in Colorado! Living in California we've had several big fires closeby, so I know the consternation, worry, and how it brings everything upside down in the world around you. Glad you are safe!

  13. Great compositions Al, both with the lighthouse and the two ships.

That is a huge number of people left homeless but the worst is the loss of life and the effect that has on the families.I sincerely hope that the homes were adequately insured. It is so hard to get back on your feet if that is not the case.

My hope is that those who did not lose their homes but came close to it, do not take out their residual fear on those unfortunates who lost everything.

  14. Sad for the fire damage..... glad that you guys are OK.....

We watched Coast Guard training often when we used to spend time on the Oregon Coast; it is fascinating. Our skies today here (in real life we're back in Oregon)look just like those in your picture.

  18. The photographs you show are fascinating, and I'm happy that you and your family are safe. I imagine the heartbreak of homes and possessions lost, and especially of the two lives lost. Terribly sad. Thank you for the updates.
