San Fernando Mission Convento

Continuing to explore the San Fernando Mission, here are some photos of the Convento building. This is the only original building remaining in the mission, built between 1808 and 1822, and it contains many fascinating artifacts.

It used to be the priests' residence, but is basically a museum at this point.

There were several signs indicating important people who had visited, including the Pope if I remember correctly.

Eltz Castle

I always liked the mysterious look of this photo of Eltz Castle in Germany. It's a scan of a slide taken back around 1976.

Golden Gate Skies

Here's an unusual view of the famous Golden Gate Bridge, taken during our California trip back in May. It's a Skywatch Friday entry, and an early post for Sunday Bridges.

San Fernando Mission Church

There are a series of church missions that range up California, and I visited a couple of them when we were there this summer. Over the next few weeks I plan to post several photos from the San Fernando Mission, in the Los Angeles area. First are some photos of its church - after all, that's one of the fundamentals of any mission.

If you're in the area, I recommend a visit to this mission, as it's beautiful and very nicely restored. It's my entry for Our World Tuesday.

Friendly Garden Critter

When my little dog Socks and I were in our yard on Sunday we saw something interesting.

 He was friendly - he only hissed at me once!

Snakes are welcome in my yard as they eat voles and other annoying things. And they make for great  Camera Critters posts.

Here's a vintage 1976 slide, scanned and cropped by me, taken near Leiden. I love all the water in Holland, it's one of the things I miss living in a dry climate.

More Lightning

It's time for another summer lightning photo.

It's not my best effort as I had to crop it too much. It's for Skywatch Friday, the meme for those who love looking up.

Summer's Gone

It's official - summer's gone, as we got our first snow on Friday, along with a temperature of 18 F (-8 C).

Looking out our front door it seemed like winter.

But of course, here in Colorado bad weather doesn't last for long, and this was the scene in our local park when I took Socks for a walk this afternoon (the temperature had rebounded to 58 F, or 14.4 C).

I love walking along a sunny trail in a pine forest.

The views towards Pikes Peak are lovely.

Near the end of the walk we approached the lakes.

The sun reflecting off the water through the aspen leaves is welcome.
