Inside the U.S.S. Iowa

For the last of my series on the U.S.S. Iowa, we'll start by looking inside her armored bridge. Look at the depth of the armor plating, visible in the small window on the left.
I was intrigued by this series of doors.
And finally, here's a look at the mess, where crew members would eat.

  3. Wow! That armor plating is so thick!
Those doors (hatches) would be a problem for me. I have a tendency to trip over things.
    Nice photos Al!

  14. The doors make a wonderfully interesting picture. Where is the Iowa now (where you saw it)? On our 2010 trip 'up East' we toured a submarine in Groton (Connecticut? I think). I have to go read my own blogpost to see where and what it was exactly. Those small spaces just amazed me.

  16. Wow--it looks so cramped and small...can you imagine? I love the colors they used, the look of space and machinery.
