USS Iowa Officers Quarters

Here are some photos of areas inside the U.S.S. Iowa. First is an area for officers to relax.
This is a typical officer's quarters.
And finally, this was President Roosevelt's area when he was on the ship in World War 2.
This is my entry this week for the Our World Tuesday meme, a truly fascinating piece of American military history. And those carpets are perfect for Blue Monday.

  2. Interesting photos. I've always wondered what it's like inside of some of these ships.

  3. Really interesting captures for the day, Al!! I'm afraid that I'm too claustrophobic to have made a good sailor -- or president for that matter!! Hope you have a great week!!

  4. Hello Al,

Not only the carpets, but many other blue items make this a good Blue Monday post.

Please consider returning and leaving a comment for me.
    Happy Blue Monday!

  5. Hello again Al!

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my blog. In answer to your question, yes I have to worry about avalanche danger too. I have a beacon and wear it when I'm out in the back-country with my friends. But the snow we get in the Pacific NW is very dense and heavy and stabilizes fairly quickly. We don't worry as much about slides as folks do in Colorado, where the snow is light and fluffy and takes awhile to settle. And when I ski up adjacent to the ski runs at Timberline (an inbound ski area), there's no avy danger. So when I need an uphill fix, and I'm by myself, I just go there and do my climbing.

  7. Great photos Al! A ton of history there.

That is such a contrast to how the enlisted men are crammed onto ships.
