Just north of where I live, as you drive between the cities of Colorado Springs and Denver, there's a lot of open space.
It's a rather desolate landscape with lots of buttes and hills rising from the grasslands.
One of these hills is called Spruce Mountain, and it makes for a good winter hike; the area isn't too high so it doesn't hold a lot of snow. My next couple of Monday posts will probably be from this area.
It does look SO wintery and cold!!! Hope you and the doggies have a great new week!!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely scenery!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully empty landscape - so refreshing to look at after being surrounded by buildings and pavements.
ReplyDeleteI am always intrigued by the Front Range of Colorado--point the high plains meets the foothills. It was an area where dinosaurs roamed years ago.In my area there are a lot of fossils in the foothill rocks--we are not too far from dinosaur ridge, and a mammoth tusk was found in a creek in our community a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet you can get some good views from the top of that butte!
ReplyDeleteWhy do I expect to see a fox any time now? Is there foxes here, or mountain lions?
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words

ReplyDeleteVery scenic shots!

Such a vast open space.
ReplyDeleteNo snow there, Al? I still have lots in my back yard, but I'm seeing some dirt in the front. NO hiking the trails here yet! We've traveled further west to find spring.
ReplyDeleteSuch open country – I bet you can see a beautiful sunset there. Here, with so many pine trees everywhere it is hard to see the sunset. I like the colors of your second photo.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few places like that around where our kids live and after you walk on the trails, what you thought was desolate becomes beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis sure looks a great terrain. Wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteWhat a vista and wonderful photos of nature's beauty!
ReplyDeleteHappy Week to you,

So wild and inviting!
