One of my favorite areas to hike is Horsethief Park, on the back of Pikes Peak. It's an hour from the house so it's not one I go to that often; these photos are from last summer. Right where it starts is an old railroad tunnel, which was then used for the road with traffic lights since it was one lane, and is now abandoned and closed off.
The trail winds uphill through beautiful forest.
I love the long shadows cast by the tall trees.
In one place there's a beaver pond next to the trail.
This trail ends up at a pretty waterfall.
Of course I had my dogs with me, and silly Laika got completely tangled in her leash. She doesn't usually do that! I've got another set of photos from this hike that I'll post in a few days.
Beautiful trail -- looks like one I could hike at least part of (except I'd have to get acclimated to the altitude first).
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great hike! If I'm ever up your way I'll have to try it.
ReplyDeletevery beautiful.

Beautiful Pikes Peak photos. It is one of my favorite places. Dogs are not good untying knots, but they can sure create them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very beautiful area where you hike. Thanks for sharing the scenery with us.
ReplyDeleteAh, beautiful indeed and one that I would love to hike! Your photos are the next best thing, as always, Al. I hope your summer is off to a great start! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely area for a hike!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a beautiful area to hike, Al. I like when the trail winds through a forest.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely grand shots.
ReplyDeleteYou have taken us on this walk with you.
ReplyDeleteLove that doggie! Great place and awesome photography!
ReplyDeleteHappy Week to you ~ ^_^
What a lovely hike. I love the name of the park--it makes pictures flicker in my head of the wild west days.
ReplyDeleteOh what a lovely vicinity landscape. Even if i get a little claustrophobic going thru that old tunnel, i can sacrifice a bit for the awesome views just beyond. Thanks for them.
ReplyDeleteNice hike! Looks like it has a lot of interesting features. Your dog is so cute!
ReplyDeleteHello Al!
ReplyDeleteSounds great to hike in Horsethief Park and it is amazing the old railroad tunnel. I love to the shadows cast by the tall trees, the beaver pond and the waterfall.
It is so nice to have adorable Laika and Socks with you! They are good companions for sure! :)
That tunnel looks like a great start to a great trail. A lot of heavy timber in that tunnel! Laika may be tangled up, but she is still darn cute...
ReplyDeleteThe tunnel is unusual as an entrance of a park! If you're on the back of Pike's peak, on what altitude is the park?
ReplyDeleteA gentle reminder to link up to SEASONS with any photo you have here(it's about any experience of the season, so its' beyond landscapes). The link is open Sunday 12 am - Wednesday till 7pm, Pacific time.
Hope to see you back there with one of your interesting photos!
Also, hope you're adjusting to New York life (do you work every day there?)
Yes, I remember that you work in NY and live in CO, but I know from my own experience now, how different mountain life is from a huge city - the upside is that you've now oodles more opportunity for different kind of pics:):) Thank you for the info about Horsethief park!
