Independence Mine

Happy Halloween - here are some spooky photos of an abandoned mine to continue showing you some of the history of my part of the world. This is the famous Independence Mine near Cripple Creek. You have to be very careful walking around these old mines and stay on the marked paths because there are unmarked shafts and holes which can kill.
Approximately 200,000 ounces (5,670 kg) of gold was mined here.
It's also infamous for a 1904 cage mishap which killed 15 workers.

Mining Equipment

I spent some time not long ago looking at the mining history of my area, viewing the surface remains of several old mines, and descending into a formerly-active mine and an active surface mine. Here's a teaser, as this topic will take up several posts.

It's Autumn

It's definitely autumn - we had the first freeze last week at our house.
The leaves are mostly gone at the higher elevations but I found these last weekend.

The Alamo

While in San Antonio we visited the Alamo.
Photos are not allowed inside, but I took a couple of the outside and the grounds.
I loved this old tree.
This was an impressive cactus patch.
These trees caught my eye.
I don't remember if this cannon was an original or not.

Peak Moods (9) - Stormy Again

This photo was taken from our front porch on Saturday, it seems that the weeks of blue skies finally ended. We may even see some snow on Thursday before we warm up for the weekend. It's not B&W, the colors are natural.

San Antonio Riverwalk

Taken on a very short trip to San Antonio, Texas - it's an attractive place to walk around if you've got a couple of spare hours...

Old Critter

Taken at the Denver Aquarium - more to come. I like how the fossil appears to be chasing the fish...
