Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine (2)

Here are a few photos taken down in the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine - all photos are handheld with no flash. The tunnels seem to go on for miles, but they're well lit up for tourists.
Some of the old mine carts are still in place.
It's hard to tell from the photo but this is looking up a near-vertical shaft.
Can you imagine working up one of those ladders, handling the heavy equipment used to drill the rock?
Just like a modern office there's a room for the miners to have lunch.

  1. No little nuggets hiding anywhere then. I love the honey coloured rock or maybe that's the lighting.

  5. OMG it is scary! Those were so long ago in that part of the world, in these parts we still have people doing them, and people die there accidentally so many times.

  8. Fine photos of this mine. You have found another occupation I delighted to have avoided. We use to have gold mining in SD as well, but it was mostly strip mining.

  11. Yes ...it gives me shivers to imagine working there. My grandfather was a mining engineer and worked at gold mines in Canada and so I guess he wouldn't have worked for days at a time underground, but still... we toured some abandoned mines in Alaska and in Arizona...I really want to see these in CO.
