While the Western Diamond back rattle snake does have a poisonous bite, these snakes are not appreciated or desired. They keep rodent populations in check, and do not usually bother people unless surprised. They are probably more afraid of people than people are of them.
Oh yes -- it makes an excellent post for anyone. I am not afraid of snakes even out in the wild as long as I see them first before they see me ;>.... they do their job in nature.
