Solar Eclipse

We went to Wyoming to see the total solar eclipse, and here's a montage of photos I took. I've always wanted to see a total solar eclipse, and it was absolutely fantastic. No photos can begin to convey the experience. 99% of totality isn't the same - if you can ever get out to see one it's worth the effort.
Here's the center one blown up. The dot on the lower left is the planet Mercury.

  1. I tried to see it here, but my plans were thwarted by clouds. I wasn't even going to try and take photos though. I have no idea how to do it.
Great job, and your presentation in the first one is spectacular. I had no idea you could Mercury. Very cool...

  2. Funny how small mercury looks. Even though the solar system is small in comparison to the galaxy, the distance is huge between us and our sister planets

  4. Wow, amazing pictures Al I do hope you were careful with eyes though. I remember the one we had in 1999, we did the whole white paper thing to look at it and the light was really strange, it was like blue hour but at 1 pm and all the birds stopped singing and started roosting like it was nightime. It was weird, but interesting. I don't know when the next Lunar Eclipse will occur, it get too cloudy here in Scotland though to see anything great like that though. Thanks for sharing:)

  6. Great photos. I experienced the eclipse in totality in Idaho Falls. It was amazing but I was unprepared to take decent photographs of it as I only had my phone.

  11. Just beautiful. I guess I have until 2024 to learn how to photograph (like so many others, I didn't plan to, until I got swept up in the moment.) Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  15. These are absolutely wonderful Al -- I'm actually glad I was swamped busy last week and didn't see yours before I posted by meager efforts. But the important thing was the amazing experience; no picture could convey the feeling (but yours come closer!) ....so glad we were in the path of totality as well!
