Scenic Sunday - Royal Gorge Tramway

For this week's Scenic Sunday post, here's a very scenic but vertigo-inducing post from the Royal Gorge Tram.
It claims to be the world's longest single-span aerial tram, with a length of 2,200 feet (671 meters).
It glides 1,178 feet (359 meters) above the Arkansas river. And you feel a lot higher than that!
Here's the view from it when you first get on.
It provides great views of the Royal Gorge Bridge.
Don't miss this if you're at the Royal Gorge!

  7. Very high altitude. Been to cable cars before but not sure if it was so high up. Must try one of these bright aerial trams one day.

  11. I've been there & it was definitely INCREDIBLE!!! The drop off & river below is pretty scary, but what a view!!! We also got to pat deer on the side of the road on the way to the gorge, that was awesome! A trip I'll never forget!

  17. Great photos. I grew up in Canon City, worked at the Royal Gorge for several summers, and have been across the canyon via the tram many, many times. In fact, my dad was on the original crew when the tram first opened. The guys would ride across on top of the tram to check the cable. Sadly, the tram was lost in the June 2013 fire that took out much of the park. They've rebuilt and re-opened, but I'm not sure it will ever feel the same to me. Losing the tram was like losing a member of the family. Thankfully, the bridge wasn't burned. More here: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/check-this-out/reopening-the-royal-gorge-bridge-and-park
