A short drive from the Old Faithful area takes you to Black Sand Basin, which contains a couple of pools and geysers. Emerald Pool was spectacular, the photo doesn't do it justice.
Rainbow Pool was huge with lots of steam.
And Cliff Geyser had lots of small and medium eruptions.
Many of the pools have water temperatures near boiling. Since the ground in these areas can be thin, they have built boardwalks for people to walk on safely.
great photos. i especially like the first & last ones. the weather seemed to cooperate too which is always a plus. have a great night.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYellowstone is on my list of places to visit. My daughter and I did see the Great Sand Dunes last month. I see them in your header and can't believe how magnificent they are! I'm sure those pools in Wyoming are just as great as Colorado's dunes. Thanks for sharing. ♥♫

ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like these pools yet. Awe-inspiring is the word for them — spectacular and scary.
What causes the yellow color at the edges? Sulfur?
The pools look hot! Great shots of the geyser and the colors in the pool.
