Our house is located between Denver and Colorado Springs, the two largest cities in Colorado. On a clear night it's still dark enough to see the Milky Way but the lights from the cities are definitely encroaching. When the clouds are out the lights of Denver to the north are clearly visible reflecting off them. (The streaks of light are headlights from a nearby road.)
Here's another nighttime shot, looking towards a distant thunderstorm. If you look carefully you can see a little lightning in the cloud. This is a nine minute exposure so the circular movement of the brighter stars is quite visible.
Finally here's a recent cloud shot, not too impressive but I thought it was pretty.
Lots more skies from around the world can be found at the Skywatch Friday meme.
hello Al~ these sky pictures are impressive. i'd love to capture lightning in my photos. hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteFantastic captures, Al, as always, but these really are superb! Love the lightning, the clouds and the colors! You can almost feel those moody clouds! Marvelous! Have a great weekend!

Great sky shots! I love he scenery along I-25 between Denver and the Springs. On one of my trips long ago, we pulled off I-25 and watched the thunder storm move east - quite an impressive sight.
ReplyDeleteAnd in response to your comment, there was some grumbling here about the new building. The School Board has control over the school budget though the County Commissioners set the total amount. The school offices are scattered through several old buildings and the Board thought a central office building would be more efficient for staff. And the contract for the building was let before the financial crash that has caused budget problems across the county.
ReplyDeletewhat is the green light? Today, I had to teach my 5 year olds about night.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the last photo! The vast view and the warm colors make it seem like a scene in a sweet romantic movie :D
ReplyDeleteOh, Al--these photos are tremendous. There is a feeling about them. I can't quite put it into words.
ReplyDeleteThey fill my eyes, which, as you probably know by now--is the greatest compliment I can give.
These are absolutely stunning.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Colorado Springs it was said in jest that pretty soon Denver will stretch all the way from the city proper to the outskirts of the Springs. Just one huge city along the freeway ...
Incredible captures!
ReplyDeleteAl, These night shots are quite amazing! To see the movement of the stars is fabulous, and I do see the lightening, too. We've been having daily rain and storms here in the Mts - got to get out early to avoid getting caught.
