Jackson, Wyoming

It's strange to be sitting here blogging and listening to music, knowing what's going on in Japan and Libya. But here I am...

After leaving Yellowstone and driving through the Grand Teton National park, we stayed the night in Jackson. It's a nice (and expensive) Western town, complete with covered wooden sidewalks in places, which I'm sure would be very nice in the winter.
The town is most famous for being near the Jackson Hole ski area, but we didn't make it there. However, we did see the famous arches made of elk antlers at the entrance to main town park. Don't worry - the antlers are all shed by the elk, so no elk were harmed in the making of these arches.
And that's a small peek at my part of the world - lots more peeks around the world can be found at My World Tuesday.

  9. I've never been there, but have always wanted to visit. Even more so now that I've seen your photos. I love the arch and am relieved that it was constructed from 'donations'

  11. When we went to YellowStone we made it to Jackson Hole made one loop around the town square, saw the antler arches and drove out of town..there was no where to park and DH was getting tired, we'd been on the road for over 3 weeks stopping at night but driving all day. And we still had to drive back to MS...There was so much to see, lol..of course we picked the wrong time to go, The Motor Cycle Rally in SD was just starting and ending while we were there. I think they followed us from Mt. Rushmore...lol..the streets of Jackson Hole was covered with bikes no where to park or no way to see anything but bikers.
I hope to come back just to stay in one area and see more that we missed last time.
Love your pictures as always, Thanks for sharing with us.

  20. A few years back when we visited the area, we stayed a night in Jackson as well.

Were there Elk at the National Elk Refuge? Or were they all gone?

I agree that it is strange to carry on life like normal when such horrible tragedy is on the other side of the world.

  26. Hi Al
le tue foto sono sempre molto interessanti.
Belli questi fiori appesi al soffitto, e soprattutto molto particolare e strano quell'arco fatto di corna di alci.
    Chi è l'autore ?
Un augurio di buona giornata :)

  28. These have a weird effect en masse, as if the arch was made of rubber.
I agree, we are all distracted and at a loss just now.
