First, my thoughts are with the Japanese today after the terrible events there.
The Yellowstone River plunges over two major waterfalls that are accessible to the casual tourist - the Upper Falls and the Lower Falls. Here's one of the best views of the Lower Falls.
The above view is from the bottom of the Uncle Tom's Trail, which descends 328 steps down this steep, iron staircase.
Of course, once you're at the bottom you have to climb back up.
You can get right up to the top of the Upper Falls, right next to the river.
The power of the water as it goes over the falls is incredible.
This is a must-see part of Yellowstone, and it's my Scenic Sunday post for the week.
Oh my does that bring back memories...lol..We were there in 2006. I'd had 5 knee surgeries about 4 yrs earlier and the last one was because I had developed staph after my 4th surgery, that I'd had 6 weeks earlier, a total replacement on my right knee. It was terrible and left my knee, well let's just say it doesn't operate like it should. I was dumb enough to go down and yes! you sure do have to go back up...lol..I made it... but swore never again. Oh but the veiw was so well worth it.
ReplyDeleteYour shots are like being there again. Just beautiful.

Al, you nailed this post! Great images of the falls, but also a nice description of place so that folks who have yet to go there will be be encouraged. Yellowstone & the falls are some of my favorite places on Earth! Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, my heart goes out to the people of Japan as well ...
ReplyDeleteWith so many images of the tragedy there, it is so very moving to see how the power of water also creates such beauty ... and rainbows.
The iron staircase, NO THANKS :(
ReplyDeleteBut so great photos, Al :-D
:) That staircase brings back memories. Unfortunately a tourist from an Asian bus-group had trouble. We did a 5 mile hike in the area and the ambulance was still there when we got back. :(
ReplyDeleteThe photos are beautiful and despite the medical emergency, it was a great day and terrific view!
Great shots and great weather you had. The water looks very powerful...

ReplyDeleteYes, our thoughts and empaty goes to the people in Japan!! It was so sad, so sad..!! Poor people!!
I can imagine how the water can be so strong over the falls.
ReplyDeleteJust now I see that there are 328 steps!! WoW! But I would really like to visit that place once!!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and you got the rainbow too. I´ve been there once, but I don´t remember that staircase. I love it and I loved that yellow rock. :)
