Aspen, June 1995

We're back in our house and everything's fine, we suffered no losses. Many weren't so lucky as almost 500 homes were burned in the wildfire. Rain Friday afternoon was a big help, and we're getting a little more rain now. Many thanks to those who sent thoughts and prayers this way.

It's back to regular blogging. Here's a photo for Vintage Weekly and Scenic Weekends of one of the Maroon Bells near aspen. It's scanned from a 1995 slide.

  2. It's been years since I've been to Aspen but I recognize this beautiful site! So glad you and your home are safe. My SIL and family were also blessed and I hope that LaForet, the UCC church camp, is fine. My daughter had the best time there and didn't want to come home after her week at camp.♥♫

  3. They are reporting now 65% contained...much better. It seems like this one was bad with the number of homes destroyed.

We enjoyed our visit to the Maroon Bells - such a beautiful view.

  8. Beautiful photo, you have to much fire and we have to much water. I suggest an exchange.

  10. Al, I'm so glad your home was spared. We have a friend living in housing on the Air Force Academy, and he was giving us updates. The fire was never close to him. Our forest here in Summit are getting dry now that the snow has melted. We're hoping for rains soon.

  11. Don't know how i missed this post, I've been so worried. Heaven help those who lost their homes. If one has never experienced catastrophic losses before, it is a very daunting prospect.
So glad you escaped that fate Al.

  13. So glad to hear this update, and sorry for those whose homes have been destroyed.

A stunning photo to remind us of the beauty rather than the terror of nature.
