Snuggling Dogs

Sometimes Socks and Laika like each other - this was one of those times.

Studious Laika

Even when I read, little Laika loves to hang out. Socks is right behind her too!

Cute Laika

Since she loves to snuggle so much, it's easy to get cute photos of little Laika.

Little Laika

Laika is so attached - she always wants to be next to me. She's a rescue and I think she's happy to have a home where she's safe. If I'm sitting down, she'll be on my lap, preferably under a blanket.

Cute Laika

It's not the best quality shot, but it's cute so I'm posting it. Our little dog Laika loves to snuggle.

Snuggling Dogs

Our dogs aren't best buddies, but once in a while they'll snuggle up next to each other, like in this cellphone shot.

Trees, Dogs, & Shadows

Taken at the nearby Fox Run Park last weekend, you can see my two little dogs in this first shot if you look carefully. They love to go somewhere, and are so excited to get in the car with me!
This one's simply got lovely trees and shadows.

Snow Dogs

My city is at the same latitude as Lisbon, or a little further south than Beijing. But since our elevation is so high we can get extremely varied weather. While we've had plenty of warm, sunny weather, it's still snowing on occasion. This has been the scene twice this week - I took these with the cellphone just  few days ago. With his thick fur coat Socks doesn't mind the white stuff.
On the other hand Laika's not a fan, although she's still happy to get outside.

Relaxing

If I'm relaxing with some music or a video game our little critters often join me. Long-haired Socks snuggles on top of the blanket...
...while short-haired Laika burrows under it!

Hiking Laika

From the same hike I talked about last week, here's a shot of little Laika, happy to be out in the wilderness with me.

Laika

Here's our second dog, Laika. We got her from a family which left the country and couldn't take her, and she's adapted very well to us. She's very sweet with people she knows and loves going for long hikes, as well as curling up on (or under) a blanket.

King and Queen of the Mountain

We climbed a nearby mountain this morning, a little over 9,040 feet high (2.75 km).
People asked if my little dogs really climbed all the way up. Of course they did, scrambling up a few rocks when necessary, and they enjoyed every minute. If I'm getting my hiking gear ready they won't let me leave the house without them!

Cheyenne Canyon

Over the July 4th weekend I went for a little hike in North Cheyenne Canyon, a city park.
I liked this tree root growing out of the mountainside.
Of course I had my furry friends with me - here's little Laika ready to climb some stairs. They get so excited when they see me getting my hiking stuff ready!

Horsethief Park Hike (1)

One of my favorite areas to hike is Horsethief Park, on the back of Pikes Peak. It's an hour from the house so it's not one I go to that often; these photos are from last summer. Right where it starts is an old railroad tunnel, which was then used for the road with traffic lights since it was one lane, and is now abandoned and closed off.
The trail winds uphill through beautiful forest.
I love the long shadows cast by the tall trees.
In one place there's a beaver pond next to the trail.
This trail ends up at a pretty waterfall.
Of course I had my dogs with me, and silly Laika got completely tangled in her leash. She doesn't usually do that! I've got another set of photos from this hike that I'll post in a few days.
