Sandwich, Massachusetts

The town of Sandwich, Massachusetts is famous for its boardwalk.
Settled in 1637, it's the oldest town on Cape Cod.
The boardwalk goes over this inlet, and the area has a unique beauty.
This lovely beach is at the end of the boardwalk.
We didn't spend long here because there was rain on the way.
But I'm glad we made the small detour to see it.
We certainly don't have terrain like this here in Colorado!

Hyannis, MA

We recently spent a couple of days on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. We stayed in Hyannis, a coastal town on the south side of the Cape.
We spent a little time at Kalmus Beach as we don't see things like this in Colorado.
It was quite cold and very windy so we didn't spend long there, but I did take a few photos.
Despite the weather I enjoyed the scenery  here.

Final Beach Bridge Shot

Here's the last of the leftover photos from a trip to San Francisco. This latest series were all taken at China Beach. I must admit, this is one of my favorite shots.

Another San Fran Beach Shot

We had some fresh snow on our local mountain over the weekend. But I didn't get any photos of it, so my Skywatch Friday shot is another leftover from a San Francisco beach.

Miyajima Torii Gate

Don't worry, I'm just starting on my many photos from Japan and South Korea; you'll be bored of them before I'm done. I'll continue withe Myiajima's most famous site, the Itsukushima Shrine's torii gate. Can you see it in the lower left of this photo from the ferry?
Here's the more famous view of it.
Any way you view it, it's an amazing thing to see.

San Francisco Beach

Here's a leftover Skywatch Friday photo from San Francisco. The view was even better in the opposite direction.

Point Lobos Coast & Trees

To finish up my series on Point Lobos in California, here are some general photos.
I'll never tire of shorelines like this.
What a wonderful, rugged coastline!
I also loved seeing the trees here as they're so different from the dry climate where I live.
There's plenty of moss.
What a lot of green!

Point Lobos Coves

Point Lobos in California has numerous little photogenic coves. Here's China Cove.
Hiking around to the top shows a totally different view.
The aptly named Cypress Cove is another pretty one.
These windblown trees are so distinctive.
It's so different from our local Colorado scenery!

Rocky Point Lobos

Point Lobos in California is very rocky.
I found this lovely rocky reflection.
I definitely recommend visiting this park if you're in the Monterey area.
You can even find a beach!

Pacific Coast Highway (3)

Here are some final shots from the Pacific Coast Highway near Monterey - it's an area that was simply shown as "Dune Park".
I loved the wildflowers in this area (probably flowering bushes rather than actual flowers, but I'm not an expert).
I'll never tire of that rugged coastline.

Orient Point, New York

Here's a Skywatch Friday photo taken as we waited for the ferry to take us to Connecticut on a cold winter day. Orient Point is on the very end of Long Island, New York.

17-Mile Drive - Cypresses

Finishing up my series on the famous 17-Mile Drive, here are some photos of their cypress trees.
They add a lot of character to the area.
The most famous sight is probably the Lone Cypress - it's even protected by a copyright!

17-Mile Drive - Spanish Bay

Continuing with the 17-Mile Drive photos, here are some from its Spanish Bay stop.
Obviously it's a beach!
There was also a boardwalk from which you could see the dunes.
It was definitely another pretty place.

17-Mile Drive - Point Joe

Last time we were in California we spent a couple of days in the Monterey area, and drove the famous 17-Mile Drive. Here are some photos from the Point Joe area on that drive.
It's a rocky, beautiful coast.
Some cypress trees grow near the shore, and there's golfing (the famous Pebble Beach course is in this area).
You can even see sea-lions on nearby islands. There's more to come from this area next week...

Santa Monica!

These photos are already a few months old, but here are some shots of the Santa Monica beach and pier from the last time I was there.
