New York Sunrise (2)

Here's another Skywatch Friday shot of that spectacular sunrise over New York City, taken when we flew through Newark.

New York Sunrise

We flew through Newark Airport on the way to Boston recently, and the very early flight rewarded us with this spectacular New York sunrise as we were waiting to board. The tall building must be One World Trade Center.

New York City 2001

Here's a photo from when we were in New York City back in 2001, just a few weeks before 9/11. Yes, it was taken at the the top of the World Trade Center. I have very few photos from this trip.

WTC Area at Night

When I was walking around the World Trade Center, it was late enough that the memorial was closed, and this was as close as I could get to the famous pools.
It was very peaceful without all the people.
I still find it terrifying and sobering to think of the terrible events that took place here.

Looking Up At One World Trade Center

This is one of my favorite photos from my latest trip to New York City - I wandered around the World Trade Center area after I came down from the top of the building and this was one of the shots I took.

Nighttime World Trade Center Views

Here are my favorite photos from the top of One World Trade Center a few weeks ago; all were taken hand-held through the building's glass. The city lights seem to go on forever.
The classic view is to the north with the Empire State Building standing out.
Every way you look there's something interesting.
As it's on the island of Manhattan there is water in every direction.
To the south is the Upper Bay, at the end of which is the famous Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, seen here. Beyond that is the Lower Bay and finally the Atlantic Ocean.
I hope you enjoyed this little tour for the Our World Tuesday meme.

Dusk at WTC

When I got to the top of One World Trade Center it was dusk.

Inside One WTC

Last time I was in New York City I went up One World Trade Center. I was lucky that there was no line.
Normally this attractive entry area would be full of people.
Even the elevators are unique - the walls are video screens that show a panorama of the city. The view starts out showing how the area looked 500 years ago...
...and follows the time forward, until one minute (and 100 floors) later you see what the city looks like today on these enormous screens.
I've got a few photos from the top to share, but that will be for another day. In the meantime visit Our World Tuesday to see photos from around the world.

One World Trade Center

For Skywatch Friday, here's a view looking straight up One World Trade Center. More to come from this site soon.

Night in NYC

Just a couple of random nighttime shots of New York from my last visit there for the Our World Tuesday meme.

For Skywatch Friday, here are a couple of shots of Rockefeller Center in New York City.

St. Patrick's Cathedral

While in New York I visited St. Patrick's Cathedral. All photos are taken handheld without flash.
It's as beautiful as you'd think.
It's an active place of worship.
The cathedral was completed in 1878.
There are many things to see.
And don't forget to look up!
The stained glass is worth a look.

High Line Buildings

I liked the variety of buildings visible from the High Line park (and nearby) in New York City.

High Line Plants

Continuing with the High Line in New York City, the flowers and plants are very attractive.
I love how they've left some of the old railroad tracks.

High Line River Views

For Skywatch Friday, here are some late-day views of the Hudson River from the High Line Park in New York City.

New York High Line

The High Line is a park in New York City that runs along abandoned elevated railroad tracks.
It's a popular place and goes through a couple of buildings.
I took the opportunity to walk most of its length a couple of weeks ago when I was in the city.
I was intrigued by some of the artwork.
I definitely recommend it as a place to see if you're in the area.

NYC Sky

Taken from the High Line park in New York City a couple of weeks ago. Notice all the people on the left of the roof - I believe there was a bar up there.

High Line Sunset

While I was in New York I walked the High Line park, an unusual park that runs along an old elevated railroad line. Here's a shot I took just before the sun set. I've got several more posts to come from here.

Green Empire State Building

On one of the days when I was in New York City recently, the Empire State Building was lit in green.
I love night photography in New York, it's a great city for it.
