Getty Glass

One of the exhibitions at the Getty Museum is of glass. There's some incredible, old stained glass, perfectly lit from behind.
And some very delicate glassware.
It's very impressive - the photos of these two stained glass pieces don't do justice to their size or detail.
I don't have any memes to link to for this post, but I'm open to ideas.

Warm & Cold

Saturday's hike in Red Rock Canyon, 56° F (13.3° C).
Tuesday morning after a little snowstorm, on the way to work, stopping by Garden of the Gods, -2° F (-18.9° C).
That's Colorado! More photos from both days to come. In the meantime, visit Skywatch Friday.

Getty Museum Grounds

The Getty Museum in the Los Angeles area is a famous museum with an extensive collection of artwork spanning centuries. Here are some photos of the museum's grounds from our visit last summer. First up is the main entrance.
Here's some cacti - it's famous for its cactus garden.
And here's a courtyard where you can enjoy a drink.
Over the next couple of weeks I'll post some photos from inside the museum. It's well worth a visit, and it's my Our World Tuesday entry for this week.

Red Rock Canyon

I'm still catching up on old photos, which is good since I haven't had a chance to take many the last few weeks. This time it's another city park.
But although the rocks may be similar, it's not Garden of the Gods!
It's Red Rock Canyon, a good place to go in the winter since it's low elevation and doesn't hold too much snow. In fact, maybe Socks and I will head down there tomorrow as these photos are already a year old!

2008 Cloudy Peaks

Here's a photo I've had in my to-post folder for a while, from a 2008 trip to the Colorado mountains. I figure it will make a fun Skywatch Friday shot with sun, snow, blue skies, clouds, fog - just about everything except a rainbow.
I want to take a drive into the mountains in the next couple of weeks - although it's been dry where I live in the foothills, there's lots of snow up there.

Inside the U.S.S. Iowa

For the last of my series on the U.S.S. Iowa, we'll start by looking inside her armored bridge. Look at the depth of the armor plating, visible in the small window on the left.
I was intrigued by this series of doors.
And finally, here's a look at the mess, where crew members would eat.

Pretty Views

For Scenic Weekends and Orange Friday, here are a couple more photos from Garden of the Gods, this time focusing on wider views.
The next one has Pikes Peak in the background - the mountain looks much larger but the photo was taken with a wide-angle lens.
It's hard to believe this is a city park. I need to get some photos here next time it snows.

Loops & Twirls

It's time for my favorite meme, Skywatch Friday. And since it's been a while since I've posted lightning, here's one you haven't seen from last summer. Although after a while they all look the same...
See this post if you want to know how to capture lightning. Staying safe is the most important tip! And of course, you can click on the Lightning label below to see lots more of my captures.

USS Iowa Officers Quarters

Here are some photos of areas inside the U.S.S. Iowa. First is an area for officers to relax.
This is a typical officer's quarters.
And finally, this was President Roosevelt's area when he was on the ship in World War 2.
This is my entry this week for the Our World Tuesday meme, a truly fascinating piece of American military history. And those carpets are perfect for Blue Monday.

SLO Flowers

San Luis Obispo, sometimes shortened to SLO, is a very pretty town. When we were there last summer, I photographed some flowers near the mission, so to warm me up on a cold week here's one of those shots.
I'm entering this to Floral Friday, a new meme to me.

Freezing Skies

To remember the arctic weather around my country this week, here are some cold Skywatch Friday photos.
It wasn't as cold here as in most of America, and we're already above freezing, so I can't complain. The second photo tells me I need to clean my sensor.

Wassenar Windmill

My notes say that this old photo (a scanned slide) is from Wassenaar in Holland, back in 1976.

Socks in the Garden

Socks comes with me whenever I hike - here he is sitting on a rock in Garden of the Gods, admiring the scenery.
And here he's fearlessly leading the way.

Ship Skies

For this week's Skywatch Friday post, we're looking at beautiful blue skies over the U.S.S. Iowa, a ship about which I've posted several times in recent weeks.
This is looking straight up, with a  long pole on the left.
And here we're looking between two decks.
I wish all my readers a Happy New Year. I hope 2014 is a good year for you!
