Smokey Sun

I'd planned on a Seattle Skywatch this week, but these photos are more topical. Our skies have been very hazy due to smoke from wildfires in Arizona and Colorado - bad enough that they issued health advisories for a couple of days. I took these first two shots last Thursday at sunset, and the smoke was thick enough it was easy to smell.
And this last photo was Saturday's sunrise, when the sun was a faded red. It almost looked like the moon!
Hopefully we'll get some precipitation and get these fires under control, but the forecast continues to be dry for the next week. For more sunny, cloudy, and smokey skies, visit the always fascinating Skywatch Friday meme.

  1. The only good thing about forest fires is the dramatic photos they provide. The rest is awful.
I hope the fire will not get any closer to you.

  2. I do agree with Dina, the fires do provide incredibly dramatic photos! And these are perfect examples! I do hope the fires stay clear of your area, Al, I'm holding good thoughts for you and your family and Socks. Stay safe!

  7. You've captured the uneasy feeling the word 'wildfire' gives everyone. Amazing how far these winds have carried the smoke.

  13. Good luck with the forest fires--such a challenge to get under control. It does make for nice sunsets though. It has been dry and windy here in Kansas so there is dust in the air which does enhance the color in sunsets. Have a great weekend. Mickie :)
