Trees, Dogs, & Shadows

Taken at the nearby Fox Run Park last weekend, you can see my two little dogs in this first shot if you look carefully. They love to go somewhere, and are so excited to get in the car with me!
This one's simply got lovely trees and shadows.

Fox Run Park Trees

I went to the local Fox Run Park over the weekend hoping to see a little fall color. It was too early, but I did see some beautiful Skywatch Friday trees.

Another Tree

I'm sure a photo of a tree for Skywatch Friday isn't a surprise on this blog. I love the shape of this one, and my fisheye lens exaggerated everything about it! I was just about on the ground in a nearby park to take this.

Fox Run Tree

I always love taking the dogs to Fox Run Park, and I can often find a fun shot there for Skywatch Friday. This recent one was taken with my 6.5mm fisheye lens.

Fox Run Park

Since we moved a couple of years ago I haven't been to Fox Run Park as much, but I went there a few weeks ago to try out a fisheye lens before buying it, and here are the results.
It was a learning experience as I'd never used a fisheye before.
But it was fun and I ended up ordering the lens.
There was still ice on the lake a few weeks ago, but it's all gone now.

Super Eclipse

Of course I have to post my photos of Sunday's Supermoon Eclipse for Skywatch Friday. I went to a local park with a lake and set up my tripod.
We were lucky as the eclipse had started when the Moon rose, so we got to see it low in the sky. At the beginning some thin clouds made the Moon even more mysterious.
But they cleared out and left a perfect view.
The eclipsed Moon reflecting off the lake was wonderful and eerie.
And for my last shot I used a wide angle and played with a flashlight on nearby trees.
It was a great experience and I was home by 9PM!

Impending Storm

As I look forward to spring and summer weather, here's a shot from last May. It's common to be in the sunshine and see heavy thunderclouds nearby, and that's what happened here. Time to head back to the car!

Blue-and-White Skies

For Skywatch Friday, here are a couple of blue-and-white skies taken during a hike in Fox Run Park.

Last & First

This is just about the last photo from my D40X, taken at Fox Run Park on Saturday. By the end of this walk it couldn't expose anything correctly. There was lots of fresh snow on Pikes Peak, as the remnants of a Pacific Hurricane had gone over us on Thursday and Friday, dropping 2 inches (5 cm) of rain at our house, but lots of snow higher up.
And here are some of the first photos from my new D5300 which I picked up later that day. I figured I'd practice with two of my favorite subjects, Socks and Laika, and a wide-aperture lens.

Summer's Gone

It's official - summer's gone, as we got our first snow on Friday, along with a temperature of 18 F (-8 C).
Looking out our front door it seemed like winter.
But of course, here in Colorado bad weather doesn't last for long, and this was the scene in our local park when I took Socks for a walk this afternoon (the temperature had rebounded to 58 F, or 14.4 C).
I love walking along a sunny trail in a pine forest.
The views towards Pikes Peak are lovely.
Near the end of the walk we approached the lakes.
The sun reflecting off the water through the aspen leaves is welcome.
I leave you with this one final reflection.

Fox Run Socks

It's been too long since I've posted a photo of Socks. Here he is at nearby Fox Run Park, where we regularly go for walks. He's probably wondering why I posed him on the rock!
Doesn't he look happy in this second shot?
He's a great hiking companion, he was scrambling up rocks with me on a hike last weekend as we climbed a very steep canyon trail! Visit Pets Forever and Camera Critters for lots more photos.

Cold Morning in Fox Run Park

Here are some photos taken on a cold winter morning (5 degrees F, -15 C) in Fox Run Park, after a fresh snow.
The trees have an almost surrealistic feeling to them on a morning like this.
Only one set of footsteps leads down the trail ahead of me.
This was too cold for our little dog Socks, so he stayed at home. But I enjoyed it, and it's my frigid post for Our World Tuesday.

Contrail

Here's a simple photo with a lovely blue sky, pine trees, and the contrail of an airplane flying very high over Colorado.
It was taken at Fox Run Park, and it's for Skywatch Friday.

Cold Skies

I think there's a unique crystalline quality to a cold winter morning right after a fresh snow.
After the storm clears out we get those lovely Colorado blue skies. My attempt to capture this at the nearby Fox Run Park early last Friday is my Skywatch Friday entry this week.

Final Fall Fox Run Photos

Here are the last of my fall photos from nearby Fox Run Park.
This was early October and the leaves were past their best, but they qualify for the Orange Friday meme.
This reflection is for the Weekend Reflections meme.
It's a shame that people feel the need to carve into the trees, they probably don't understand the damage they're doing. Or they don't care.
I'm linking the last photo to Guest Heart Thursday, and it's also a Scenic Sunday post.

More Fall Aspen

This week's Skywatch Friday entry is of a pair of aspen trees reaching towards the sky in Fox Run Park one week ago.

Icy Weekend

We had some cold weather the last few days, and this is what we woke up to yesterday morning.
It's not uncommon to get some cold nights this time of year, but these grey skies are unusual for us.
But we were back to normal again today, so I took the dog and the camera to the local park.
And that's my post for Our World Tuesday.

Fox Run Park

I love taking our dog Socks for a walk in the nearby Fox Run Park. Here are a couple of photos from one such walk.

In my mind, Fox Run Park always qualifies for a Scenic Sunday post.
