Happy Colorado Skies

I'm going back to last March for this post, of some lovely Colorado skies taken on a hike around Monument Rock. That cloud looks so happy!
You can usually find a view in some direction...
...and sometimes the best direction is up!

Monument Hike

One of my favorite activities in the world is hiking, so this post is for Our World Tuesday as well as Tina's PicStory theme of H. This hiking trail was in the town of Monument nearby our house.
There are lots of hills and rocks in the area.
And even a mountain, Mount Herman.
I hope you enjoyed this hike as much as I did!

Monument Rock

One of my favorite local hikes is Monument Rock. A couple of days ago I posted the sign at the trail-head, and here are the rest of my photos from that hike last summer for the Scenic Sunday meme. First, I found this barbed wire right next to the trail.
 I enjoyed this sunny meadow.
I'm not sure what these few remaining wooden planks were part of.
I loved the shape of this tree against the sky.
And in contrast, these rows of trees were obviously planted.
Here's the obligatory shot of Monument Rock, this time reflected in a muddy puddle.
And finally, a cocoon with caterpillars still inside.
It's amazing what you can find on a short, nearby hike if you keep your eyes open!

Mountain Lions?

Signs, Signs is an interesting idea for a meme, although I've not participated before. But when I saw this sign at a local trail-head, I had to take a photo and link it there. I'll post the rest of the photos from this hike later this week.
It didn't stop me from hiking with my dog Socks, and we both survived. I've seen bears (mama with two cubs within 30 feet of me on a trail), coyotes, and I'm pretty certain that we encountered a mountain lion this summer although it quickly moved off the trail. We've even had a bear walk through our front yard. It's a wild area in which I live!

Monument Rock Hike

For Scenic Sunday, here are some photos from a hike around Monument Rock back in June. The light was flat but I did the best I could. The path winds through the trees.

There's a pretty little lake with a bench that makes a nice resting place.
This is Monument Rock, a towering slab in the middle of a field.
On the way back to the car is an old root cellar, now open to the sky and vandalized.
I enjoy having hikes like this just a few minutes drive from my house - I'll try to get out there again after it snows. And for more scenic blog entries, visit the great Scenic Sunday meme.

Scenic Sunday - Monument Rock

One of the local hikes is Monument Rock, and I thought I'd share some photographs I took there on a hike last fall for this Scenic Sunday post. As with most trails in this area, it winds through woods.
You glimpse Monument Rock itself fairly often.
Near its base is a pond (I've posted a picture of the rock reflected in this pond here in the past).
The rock is fairly tall, and much wider than it is narrow. There's a tree growing right against it on one side.
I liked the reflections and these tree roots.
I also liked the shape of this tree.
And finally, the remains of this root cellar show that you can't get away from graffiti anywhere.

Skywatch Friday - Monument Rock

This picture was taken on a hike in the fall in my local area. It's of Monument Rock, reflected in a pond. More pictures from this hike will be going up before too long. For hundreds more worldwide skies, visit Skywatch Friday.
