Scenic Sunday - Black Sand Basin (Yellowstone)

A short drive from the Old Faithful area takes you to Black Sand Basin, which contains a couple of pools and geysers. Emerald Pool was spectacular, the photo doesn't do it justice.
Rainbow Pool was huge with lots of steam.
And Cliff Geyser had lots of small and medium eruptions.
Many of the pools have water temperatures near boiling. Since the ground in these areas can be thin, they have built boardwalks for people to walk on safely.

  2. Yellowstone is on my list of places to visit. My daughter and I did see the Great Sand Dunes last month. I see them in your header and can't believe how magnificent they are! I'm sure those pools in Wyoming are just as great as Colorado's dunes. Thanks for sharing. ♥♫

    Cheers!"

  11. You answered my question with your last statement, thanks. ;)

I've never seen anything like these pools yet. Awe-inspiring is the word for them — spectacular and scary.

What causes the yellow color at the edges? Sulfur?
