Last weekend was closing weekend at Copper Mountain, my resort of choice. With three feet of new snow in the previous week I had to get out there, and that's exactly what I did on Saturday. This late in the season the tourists are missing (all photos are taken with my phone).
A couple of inches of new snow overnight meant that the spring ice was nicely covered up. (The warm spring sunshine means that the snow melts during the day and freezes overnight, so conditions can be very icy in the morning this time of year.)
They're closing with the most snow of the season, not unusual here in Colorado. I'll finish up the ski season with a shot from an advanced, above-timberline run from Saturday morning.

Always sad to see the ski areas close for the season, especially when there's still lots of snow on the ground. Our ski areas will be open for awhile yet - Mt Hood Meadows until mid-May, Mt Bachelor until Memorial Day weekend, and Timberline stays open until mid-summer.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots from Copper Mountain. I skied there once and really enjoyed it. Good you were able to get out to ski one last time this season. We got over a foot of snow last weekend, but it has been melting ever since.
ReplyDeleteStill looks very cold.
ReplyDeleteNow that looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a skier, but I can appreciate the beauty. It must be wonderful to go out there when there is almost no one around. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

What a great and beautiful area!
ReplyDeleteGood for you out there on the advanced run!! Seems a shame to close the resort with so much snow left. We would love to have all that snow here in California!!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they stay open a little longer? Wow, it is just beautiful, glad you got there for closing weekend and thankful you shared the pictures.
