Long Train

Last week I showed you some train tracks in Colorado Springs. These tracks are active, with coal being most commonly transported.
These trains are very long and take many minutes to pass by.
They have several engines at the front and back to help them get over the nearby hills (specifically, Monument Hill which is around 7,300 feet or 2,225 meters elevation at the low point where the train goes over it).
The freight cars can seem endless.
It's a big part of Our World Tuesday.

  1. That is a LONG train, Al!! What great shots for the day!! I've always loved trains and still prefer trains to airplanes - although I love to fly as well. Just something about trains, being able to see the surrounding countryside, having room to move around -- all a lot better than flying these days in particular! Great look at your world! Hope you have a great week! Give Socks a pat from us!

  5. Ah, yes,! I am familiar with l-o-ng trains as the Canadian National line runs right through my town. ;)) I'm amazed at how little graffiti is on the train cars.

  14. Great pictures! Everyone of those BNSF coal trains travels just a mile north of my house and through Wiggins, the town where I teach. Sometimes they block the crossings and the buses are late. This usually happens in the mornings.♥♫

  16. Great shots, Al! In that part of CO, 7300 is only half way up the mountains.

  17. These long trains are amazing. I wish more freight was carried by rail. I would always choose to travel a long distance by train rather than driving.

  18. They certainly make a splash on the landscape and give you plenty of time to get out the camera. Nicely documented Al. I really like the train as an adjunct to the landscape.

  21. I like seeing trains winding through the West. Sometimes, late at night in the city, I can hear a mournful whistle.

  22. WoW, that was really at a high point of the mountains, and still even the lowest point! no doubt the trains have to have several engines at the front and back! =O and sooo many freight cars!! wow!

  23. We are fascinated with trains -- partly because we both grew up in what I think is the only county in the USA that doesn't have any train tracks at all (Asotin County Washington, in the far eastern corner of that state). So after all this time away from there, we still much enjoy watching trains just as if we were kids again!

That's a lot of hill for a train to get over there in Colorado!
