Cave of the Winds (Inside)

In last week's Scenic Sunday post, I showed the area surrounding the Cave of the Winds. This week we're heading inside. All these photos were taken hand-held with my old DSLR in a cave with no flash, using a fixed-length lens (no zoom), so they may not be perfect, but I think they get the cave's beauty across.

First the tour takes us through a tunnel directly into the cave.
Once inside, various areas are dimly lit, and it's a uniquely beautiful experience.
Now I want to see some of the more famous caves, such as Carlsbad Caverns. But to see more scenic sights, visit the Scenic Sunday meme.

  3. Nice cave shots. No flash is usually better if there's adequate cave lighting.

Look up Kartchner Caverns in AZ. Carlsbad is nice too. Very true that all caves are different.

  9. Hiya Al,
    Rather you than me :-)
Great to see your photos of it though: the stone has become an art form.
Handheld, fixed lens -- they are my stapled settings. Yours came out well. What did you crank the iso up to?

  10. Fantastica questa grotta !
Ma in America è possibile fare foto, all'interno delle grotte, ai turisti ?
In Italia è assolutamente proibito... se si vuole una foto ricordo, bisogna comperare delle cartoline !
    Buona giornata :)

  11. We must have driven by Cave of the Winds a hundred times when we lived in Colorado ... but not once did we have time to stop. Now I'm sad that we didn't!

P.S. Please come take our rain! It is so wet here that the roads are flooding and cities are handing out sandbags to anyone who wants to fill them. Yeeks! Where's my canoe when I need it???

  12. This post looks like a National Geographic article! Is it true that it's much more cold inside the caves? I hope I have a chance to go inside a cave one day :-D
