Breckenridge Snow Sculptures

Last weekend while we were in Keystone, nearby Breckenridge was having its snow sculpture competition. We made it there on Saturday evening and I took a few photos with my fast lens - these are all handheld shots. The textures and details in these short-lived artworks were very impressive. First up is a closeup of a section of Team Mexico's first-place winning sculpture, "Alebrije."
Here's a dungeon-like detail from a different sculpture that was lit from within.
Another sculpture was elegantly curved.
And finally, my personal favorite was the Medusa. Especially with the lighting, she was very eerie - don't look her in the eye!

My World Tuesday - BreckConnect Gondola

For today's little part of my world, here are some photos of and from the BreckConnect gondola taken a few weeks ago. This is the recently-built gondola that takes a rider from the main ski area parking lots to the base of the ski runs.

My World Tuesday - Breckenridge, Frisco, and Tree Buds

I'm sharing several different things for this week's My World Tuesday post. First up are some photographs taken in downtown Breckenridge on a gray day in early April. Rather than show the main street itself I thought I'd show photographs taken looking away from the main street.
Near Breckenridge is the small town of Frisco, and here's a picture of its main street on the same day, with the mountainous backdrop trying to hide in the clouds and fog. I was hoping to get to the town's marina but there was too much snow.
And finally, even around my house at 7,500 feet elevation, spring is finally showing up with the aspen trees budding. This last photo (cropped from a larger shot) was taken on Sunday in the local Fox Run Park.
I hope everyone has a great week, and look forward to reading about other people's worlds on the My World Tuesday home page.

My World Tuesday - Breckenridge Ski Area

The famous ski resort of Breckenridge is a couple of hours drive from our house, and I was up there recently (although not skiing this time). Here are a few pictures from the base area of one of the mountains (Peak 8 - the skiing spans peaks 7, 8, 9, and 10). The light was very flat so the shots weren't great, but here they are anyway. The first one shows a lift line at the base.
Next you can see the ski runs rising into the fog.
The highest lift reaches an altitude of 12,840 feet (3,910 m).
Here's an older lift rising into the distance.
And finally you can see a snowboarder in the air.
I can't wait to start skiing again next season - it's been a couple of years now but I'm ready to pick it up again! For interesting pieces of lots of different worlds, visit the My World Tuesday web site.
