Greenwood Stream & Trees

Here are the last photos from a hike to that abandoned settlement, starting with a stream that we crossed at the start of the hike.
Here's another view of the same spot.
I always love the tall pine trees on almost every trail around here.
Even when they are past their expiration date!
I'll end up linking this with Scenic Weekends in a few days...

Abandoned Shadows

A couple of weeks ago I posted photos from a trail to an abandoned settlement, Greenwood Park. Here are some shadowy shots from the actual settlement. All that's left of this cabin is the chimney.
The trees are growing in what used to be this building.
Apparently they had piped water.
This used to be a bridge.
And I'm guessing this was a common building. There are remnants of an electrical box in this so it must be 20th century.
I'm linking these photos to Shadow Shot Sunday, a meme I haven't joined in far too long.

Greenwood Settlement Trail

Here are some photos from last summer of a trail that leads to an abandoned settlement. It starts next to a mountain road.
It climbs and climbs.
Eventually the trail almost disappears.
But of course Socks is always happy to come along!
This is my entry for Scenic Weekends.

Greenwood Park Ruins

Here are the last of my photos from last summer's hike to the ghost town Of Greenwood Park. It's not too old, as they had electricity at one point!
I couldn't tell what this old machinery was.
Here's the inside of a ruined cabin.
 Here's some kind of rotunda.
And a view out from one of the windows!
It's not easy to find, but it's interesting when you do. And that's this week's Scenic Sunday entry.

Greenwood Park Chimneys

Continuing with last week's photos of my summer hike to the ghost town of Greenwood Park, the first sign of old habitation are some chimneys poking through the forest.

Next week we'll see some actual buildings! In the meantime visit Scenic Sunday for more scenery of all kinds.

Greenwood Park Path

I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks exploring the ghost town of Greenwood Park, just outside Colorado Springs. We'll start with the trail to get there, which starts in Cheyenne Canyon. This trail isn't always obvious, and I don't think I'd have found the "town" without GPS coordinates and a navigation unit. It wasn't great weather when we started hiking.
I'm always intrigued by fallen timber.
And larger fallen timber - I was a little nervous walking under this tree.
As you can see, the weather cleared up. Next week we'll start to see some ruins... In the meantime visit Scenic Sunday for more scenic photos.
