Boston Harbor

For Skywatch Friday, here's Boston Harbor with the airport in the background.

Boston Science Museum

When we were in Massachusetts I took the grandkids to the Boston Museum of Science. They have lots of great interactive exhibits and the children loved it - I was intrigued with this feature, which clearly shows the internal structures of waves.
But everybody's favorite was the lightning show.
Of course there's a kite being hit by lightning...
...and somebody climbs in the cage while it's struck by lightning!

Boston, Summer

Rather than post a photo of the 15 inches (38 cm) of fresh snow we got since this morning, here's a warmer photo of Boston last summer for Skywatch Friday.

Another Great Ski Day

The calendar may say spring, but I went skiing again yesterday - there's been two feet of new snow at the ski areas in the last week so the conditions were great on the mountain (although the powder was skied off). And there weren't any crowds - I didn't wait in a lift line once!
Let's go down this trail and see what it looks like.
Steep! (If you don't know about trail signs, a double-diamond is an expert-only run.)
I'll never tire of mountain views in the winter, and where better to get them than on the slopes?
Final statistics according to my GPS watch: 31.8 miles (51.2 km) covered including chairlift rides, maximum speed 33.84 MPH (54.46 kph). And lots of space to move!

Snowy Dogs

We had a little snow yesterday, but these photos are from a few weeks ago when we had a big storm. Socks doesn't mind the snow - he's got the fur coat for it. I call him my winter dog.
But Laika is built for hot weather - she's my summer dog. It's unfortunate for her that she lives 7,100 feet (2.1 km) above sea level where it frequently snows!

Ward Reservation

Here are some more photos from the Ward Reservation, near Boston. One of the trails led through a bog, you can see the wooden planks in this shot.
Here's a close-up of the swampy plants.
There was so much growth compared to the dry climate where I live, even in the forest.
Ferns were everywhere.
There were nice views at the top of the hill.
Downtown Boston was visible in the distance.

Ward Reservation Trail

When I was in the Boston area last summer I was intrigued by the Ward Reservation so did a little hiking there.
It was well-maintained and a very pleasant place to get away from the bustling city.
The mix of fields and meadows was very inviting.
At the top were some towers...
...and a large water tank. More photos to come.

NYC At Night

I recently traveled to New York City for a job interview. I didn't have much spare time but did manage to snap a couple of photos walking around at night - here's a construction zone.
I always like seeing the towers.
By the way, I got the job; I'll be starting in a couple of weeks. I don't have to move so I'll continue to live here in beautiful Colorado.

Portland Views

Here are the views from the Portland Observatory (in Maine), about which I've blogged a couple of times recently.
