Here's another Skywatch Friday shot of that spectacular sunrise over New York City, taken when we flew through Newark.

New York Sunrise
We flew through Newark Airport on the way to Boston recently, and the very early flight rewarded us with this spectacular New York sunrise as we were waiting to board. The tall building must be One World Trade Center.

Dogwalking Sunrise
I've been offline for a while - first we were out of town for a few days, and when we got back we had internet problems. To celebrate my being back online, here's a recent cellphone shot of sunrise, taken while I was walking the dogs. It's for Skywatch Friday.

Multicolored Sunrise
Here's another crazy sunrise taken with my cellphone driving to work (stopped at a light).

Total Lunar Eclipse
I made a point of watching this morning's total Lunar eclipse, a super blue blood Moon, to get some photos for Skywatch Friday (that's a total solar eclipse and a total lunar eclipse in just over five months). It's super because it's at the closest point to Earth in its orbit. Here the Earth's shadow is just starting to touch it.
It's blue simply because that's what the second full Moon of a month is called. Here it's almost gone.
It's blood because that's the color it turns when totally covered by the Earth's shadow, only getting sunlight refracted through our atmosphere. I took the dogs for a walk under this very dim red moonlight.
And as if nature hadn't blessed us with enough beauty for one day, driving to work a few minutes later I took the following photo.

Another Sunrise
Here's another cell phone shot, this time driving to work on a recent morning. I was stopped at a light so don't worry!

Walking The Dogs (2)
We had snow at our house on Monday, but I'm not going to show you that (it's sunny and warm again now). Instead, this shot was taken with my cellphone while walking the dogs on another recent morning.

Wyoming Dawn
We stayed in Wyoming Sunday night to witness Monday's eclipse - the state's population more than doubled for the big event (less than 600,000 people live in the state, which is bigger than the United Kingdom). The day dawned bright with barely a cloud to be seen. I'll post more next week...

Garden Path
Here are the last of the winter photos from Garden of the Gods - it's part of the path with a cold winter sunrise. It was below 0° F (-18° C) on this morning, but that's why we have good winter coats and gloves in this part of the world.
And turning around, this is what you see.

Winter Sunrise
When the clouds are just right, and there's a break at the horizon, our winter sunrises can be spectacular.
I never tire of these fiery skies.

Glowing Sunrise
A few weeks ago I was getting ready to head out to the office when I saw clouds off to the east that portended a fine sunrise. So of course I had to wait with camera in hand.
And sure enough, that gap between the clouds and the eastern horizon gave us that classic fiery sunrise glow.
And we certainly got an intense glow this time!
All photos are straight out of the camera for Skywatch Friday and Orange Friday.

Prospect Lake Sunrise
These photos are taken at Prospect Lake early one morning, near downtown Colorado Springs.
The first was taken with a wide-angle lens, while the second was taken from the same spot with a telephoto lens.

Unusual Sunrise
This week's Skywatch Friday entry is a sunrise with unusual clouds.
It doesn't have the deep reds we sometimes see here but I still loved it!

Memorial Park Sunrise
In my last post I showed you the scene around Memorial Park where the Balloon Classic is held every year. Even though we didn't get to see any balloons lift off the day I visited, we did get a nice sunrise.
So it wasn't a complete waste of sleep getting up that early - at least I got some Skywatch Friday photos.

Special Sunrise
On Friday we had one of those incredible sunrises.
I was putting the laptop in the car to head to work, but I just had to fetch my camera and wait to take some photos of the spectacular skies - I'm lucky that I don't have to be at work at a specific time. I'm sure you'll find some more beautiful sunrises if you head over to Skywatch Friday.

Smokey Sun
I'd planned on a Seattle Skywatch this week, but these photos are more topical. Our skies have been very hazy due to smoke from wildfires in Arizona and Colorado - bad enough that they issued health advisories for a couple of days. I took these first two shots last Thursday at sunset, and the smoke was thick enough it was easy to smell.
And this last photo was Saturday's sunrise, when the sun was a faded red. It almost looked like the moon!
Hopefully we'll get some precipitation and get these fires under control, but the forecast continues to be dry for the next week. For more sunny, cloudy, and smokey skies, visit the always fascinating Skywatch Friday meme.

Sky Watch Friday Outtakes
Here are some Skywatch Friday "outtakes", just like deleted scenes on a DVD. I was in a rush and didn't spend my time getting the exposures correct and clear, and the results were less than satisfying.
These may be the worst photos I've ever posted on my blog. I promise I'll find something better for next week.
