Sensō-ji (2)

The landscaping in Sensō-ji (金龍山浅草寺) in Tokyo is exquisite.
And the famous five-story pagoda is incredible.

Little Socks

Socks is about to turn 14, and still loves his walks. He's more independent than Laika, but still loves to hang out with his family. With his thick fur, he's usually on top of a blanket rather than under one.

Snow

We got hit by that "bomb cyclone" last week. It basically formed over Colorado, and wind gusts as high as 97 mph (156 kph) were measured at our local airport (the equivalent of a category 2 hurricane). On top of that we got a foot (30.5 cm) of snow with huge drifts. 1,110 cars got stranded on area roads, which were basically impassable for a day. Luckily I was able to work from home! This was my sidewalk after using the snowblower.

Sensō-ji (1)

According to Wikipedia, Sensō-ji (金龍山浅草寺) is the world's most visited religious site.
Over 30 million people visit this Buddhist temple each year.
The first temple here was founded in 645 AD.
It was destroyed in World War II, but rebuilt.
The Thunder Gate is at the entrance to the temple.
The lantern is very famous.
This is one of Tokyo's most impressive sights, and no visit to Tokyo is complete without seeing it.

Little Laika

Laika is so attached - she always wants to be next to me. She's a rescue and I think she's happy to have a home where she's safe. If I'm sitting down, she'll be on my lap, preferably under a blanket.

Tokyo Tower (2)

In today's post I'll show you views from the Tokyo Tower.
The main observation deck is 150 meters (492 feet) high.
Since we only expect to visit once, we paid the extra fee to visit the 250-meter-high  (820-foot) top deck.
The views were certainly spectacular. Tokyo seems to go on forever (it is the world's largest metropolitan area).
Of course I had to stand on the obligatory glass floor to take a photo looking down. Stop reading here if you're afraid of heights!

Peak Moods (15) - Icy

Here's a recent shot of Pikes Peak (although not the very top). While our weather was nice that day, the Peak looked really cold. All these Peak Moods shots are taken with a telephoto lens from my front porch.
It seems as if Skywatch Friday needs an account to link there, so I don't think I'll be joining that meme much longer.

Tokyo Tower (1)

The Tokyo Tower, or officially the Japan Radio Tower (日本電波塔), is one of Tokyo's most famous sights.
It was built in 1958 and is obviously inspired by the Eiffel Tower.
It's 1,092 feet (333 meters) high, and is built to withstand strong earthquakes and typhoons.
Next week I'll show you some views from the top.
