Ruined Cabin

Coming back to Colorado for this week's My World Tuesday post, here is another ruined cabin from a recent hike in the Monument area. I particularly liked the chimney, on which somebody had painted eyes.
Other than that, there's not much left.
This probably used to be a root cellar.
Of course, I had to look inside. It's being used as a shelter by a homeless person.
And of course, because of the last photo, I have to link this to Guest Heart Thursday as well!

Lokrum

Here's my last photo of the Dubrovnik area, this time the island of Lokrum, just off the coast of Dubrovnik. It's visible in last week's photo.

Grand Teton National Park Mountains

For this week's Scenic Sunday post, here are the last photos I have from the Grand Teton National Park. I believe one of these is Mount Moran.

Sky Watch Friday Outtakes

Here are some Skywatch Friday "outtakes", just like deleted scenes on a DVD. I was in a rush and didn't spend my time getting the exposures correct and clear, and the results were less than satisfying.
These may be the worst photos I've ever posted on my blog. I promise I'll find something better for next week.

Mirage Volcano (Las Vegas) & Snow

Following on from last week's My World Tuesday post, here are some photos of the volcano attraction in from of the Mirage as it erupts. It starts with fountains of water and colored lights.
Bursts of fire appear.
Fire jets play across the pond in front of the hotel, synchronized with music.
Fire runs down the waterfall.
And finally it all ends with one last explosion.
And, here's a bonus photo from my house on Thursday afternoon, after we got yet more snow. This is about as opposite to the following photos as I could think of!

Dubrovnik Harbor (2)

For the Sunday Scans meme, here's another slide of the Dubrovnik harbor.
I'll post more about the island in the background next week.

Yellowstone's Artist Point

The view at Artist Point in Yellowstone must not be missed. It's one of the best views I've ever seen anywhere, and neither words nor photographs can do it justice. But here's my attempt to show it, for the wonderful Scenic Sunday meme.

Pink Dome Sky

The Circus Circus hotel in Las Vegas has an indoor theme park (the Adventuredome), complete with a roller coaster and other thrill rides. It's housed in a pink glass dome, and I thought a photo looking up would make a great photo for Skywatch Friday. It's much bigger than it looks here.
This is one of the few truly family-friendly places on the Strip, and we've stayed there more than once because of this (we used to stay in Vegas driving between Colorado and Los Angeles). Unfortunately, the hotel is not in the middle of the rest of the action on the Strip.

The Mirage (Las Vegas)

For My World Tuesday this week, here are more Las Vegas photos. The hotel next to ours in Las Vegas was the Mirage, and it's got waterfalls and ponds in the front.
Inside is a dome with palm trees and other tropical plants.
They've got a volcano attraction outside that goes off after dark, I'll show that in a future post.

Dubrovnik Harbor (1)

For the Sunday Scans meme, here's a scanned slide of the beautiful Dubrovnik harbor.
I'm very pleased with how these 34-year-old slides have held up, and with how well they've scanned using my inexpensive home scanner. At this point, I've got all the photos I've ever taken scanned in fairly high resolution, and copied to the netbook I use for blogging.

Scenic Yellowstone

Well, it looks like Blogger is back after its problems, although several comments that people left for me have disappeared - hopefully they will return as Blogger finishes restoring lost data. Anyway, here are some random scenic photos from Yellowstone.

First up are some huge basalt columns next to one of the rivers.
And here's another view taken very near the first photo.
And finally, a valley that I thought was very pretty.

Snowy Morning

Here's the scene that greeted me when I got up this morning, totally appropriate for Skywatch Friday.
They're not perfect photos, but they show how my area can be this time of year - hot one day, with winter making an appearance the next! We've got a winter weather advisory today, we could get up to 5 inches (12 cm) of snow, or possibly more. But I'm not complaining, as we need the moisture.

Treasure Island (Las Vegas)

While we were in Las Vegas we stayed at Treasure Island.
This hotel is probably best-known for the pirate ship in front, where they put on a free show several times each evening. I'll have photos from this show in a future post.
And finally, here's a night-time photo of the hotel, taken from the sidewalk next to the neighboring hotel, the Mirage.
Visit My World Tuesday for lots more interesting photos from various corners of the world.

Dubrovnik - Rector's Palace

I hope you're enjoying the old Dubrovnik slides, because here's another one. It's one of the few from within the city that's worth posting, the Rector's Palace. I was an inexperienced photographer at this point in my young life, so many of the city shots are marginal, but this one was okay after a little work with the GIMP photo editing program.
Visit Sunday Scans for more scanned photos and other interesting things.

Yellowstone's Palette Spring

We're going back to Yellowstone for this week's Scenic Sunday post. This time we're visiting the Mammoth Hot Springs area, where the Palette Spring was looking magnificent when we were there last year.
I'm finally running low on Yellowstone shots, just a few more posts and I'll be done. But you can always look back on them by clicking the Yellowstone link on the right side of the blog.

Albuquerque Dawn

From where I live there are two main routes to drive to Las Vegas. The quicker route is the northern route along Interstate 70 and Interstate 15, but there was snow that way on the drive to Vegas so we drove the southern route, along Interstate 25 and Interstate 40. These two roads cross in Albuquerque, and we were there just before dawn, where I took this Skywatch Friday photo from a gas station on I-40.
This is looking over the city towards the Sandia Mountains. On the way back we drove the northern route, and I've got a Skywatch photo from that drive that I'll probably post next week.

Las Vegas!

If I haven't visited your blog lately, it's because I've been in Las Vegas for the last few days! I've got lots of photos to share, but here are a couple from the famous Strip.
These are for the My World Tuesday meme, and lots more will follow.
