Skyless Hawaii Skywatch
You're probably wondering what Al's thinking posting this boring photo of concrete for Skywatch Friday. There isn't even any sky visible!
Well, to an expatriate Englishman, this was a strange sight indeed. Notice how the signpost in the foreground has no shadow except the sign - the sun was directly overhead, and that was a new experience for me back in 1997 when I took this photo on my first trip to Hawaii, and my first trip to the tropics. So while many of my readers may see this several times a year, it's a rarity indeed for people in Europe or North America!

What a fascinating capture, Al!! No, I have never seen this, although I've heard about it from some friends who had seen it! Hope your week is going well!
I have to admit that if I had seen it, I wouldn't have known it. Sometimes having an unscientific mind (to describe my brain as kindly as I can) means that you miss a lot. I just think that if there is a shadow, it's magic!
There isn't a more appropriate Skywatch photo in the world! I love that you are celebrating the "directly overhead sun" phenomenon with this! Ancient man invented sundials for the same purpose, and hey, THEY were very aware WHERE directly overhead worked, and where it didn't! We tend to forget these things!
