Timberline A-Frame

Last weekend we took the cog railroad up Pikes Peak. In 1993 I hiked all the way up the Barr Trail to the top. Here's a photo from that hike of the A-Frame shelter at timberline, around 11,500 feet (3,500 meters) above sea level.
If you've got old photos, please post them and support the Vintage Weekly meme.

  1. Great photo and info to go with it. I cannot imagine hiking as you have done. The first time I made it to the top of Pike's Peak I was in a van driven by someone else. A fear of heights I've lived with my entire life kept me scared the whole way, but I did so enjoy the view once we got there. The other two times I've been up Pike's Peak were on the cog railroad which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for your post today.

  3. I love this meme of yours and love your post today. I'm too far away from my South African home where my printed (and old) photos are kept. But I'll keep visiting your interesting blog. Greetings Jo (Tanzania)

  5. In terrain like that, at such an altitude, that simple little shelter can be the difference between life and death. Nice shot.

  6. We are headed to Colorado in about 3-1/2 weeks - can't wait! We are heading up to North Dakota from Denver, but will spend a few days around Boulder before heading north. A job possibility popped up there - so I am going to be checking it out!

  7. I've walked part way up Barr Trail, but gave up when it looked like rain which happens about every afternoon during the summer.
