Skywatch Friday - Thundercloud at Sunset

Back in the summer, I caught this thunderhead just before sunset. It was much bigger than it appears here, this is captured at 12mm (18mm in film equivalent). We get a lot of afternoon thunderstorms here in the May through September timeframe. If you like lightning photos I've got a couple here and here, and a distant thunderstorm with lightning here, all from before when I joined Skywatch Friday.

That thundercloud looked pretty scary.

Impressive stuff! It's like a giant anvil sitting on the horizon.

Great shot Al, beautiful cloud in a clear blue sky. Seeing your mention of lightening strikes I popped over there and wow! That first one is awesome, the crop really shows off the strike!

Very lovely design by the clouds in the blue sky.

Nice capture! I've seen some of the Colorado thunderstorms, both form the ground and the air. One trip back to MD we took off and the pilot announced the storm went to 60,000 feet. He flew a good ways south before turning east.
