Typical Afternoon Clouds

For Skywatch Friday this week, here are a couple of recent photos of typical afternoon clouds taken from my front yard. Clear mornings and afternoon storms are very common during this time of year, as monsoon moisture causes clouds to build over the mountains and move over the plains. Sometimes these clouds build into impressive thunderstorms, spawning tornadoes and large hail, and other times they're much milder, like these examples.
Visit the Skywatch Friday blog for more cloudy and clear skies.

  12. That's strange. We have the same kind of weather now. I thought it was summer there.

I love big, puffy white clouds like these, rain or no rain.

  14. Did you watch the news about the thunder and lightning striking the aeroplane?

In Borneo, we have the monsoon too.

There must be so much rain in your swollen clouds. You chase tornadoes?

  18. I see a moose's head in the first shot.
It's lovely to know your clouds well enough to recognise what's typical for a certain type of year. Like greeting old friends.
