From a hike last September on the west side of Pikes Peak, here are some photos from an area known as Horsethief park, so known because it's where the horse thieves used to hide out. It's one of my favorite areas to hike, but it's about an hour's drive from my house so I only go once or twice a year. Here in the initial steep climb I felt like I was in a Lord of the Rings movie.
This time I went on different paths than usual, down to a stream with some remains of human construction.
I found a small cave that might be used for shelter if you were brave enough...
...and the remains of a nearby campfire.
And finally, a large beaver dam.
I've got more shots from last weekend here, but I'll put those up another time. In the meantime, visit Scenic Sunday for more worldwide scenery. And also PicStory, where this week's theme is "outdoors" which is perfect for this hike!

ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Lord of the Rings!! Terrific captures as always, Al! I love the water in the second pic and the little cave in the third, pretty sure I wouldn't be brave enough!! Hope you have a great weekend. Give Socks a hug from Sam and me!

I've not yet been west of the Front Range in many a year, and only saw Pike's Peak from level ground in Colorado Springs. An amazing beauty on and inside the Rockies!
ReplyDeleteHi Al ~ your first photo looks very much like the path we follow down to the cabin we stay in at Lake Tahoe.
ReplyDeleteAll your photos are great, enjoyed seeing all of them.
Olá, amigo!

Hi Al,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your kind words of comfort. I agree with you, our dear dogs are family.
Love seeing photos of this beautiful Horsethief park.
It transmit to me calm and peace.
Thank you!
Beautiful hike Al -- thanks for sharing! We drove up PIke's Peak once and "hiked" around up on top -- I always feel good that I can breathe without getting dizzy up that high.
ReplyDeleteDon't think I've mentioned that I really love your header shot -- and Sand Dunes NP is one of the wonders of Colorado we've missed so far (we'll be back).
That looks like somewhere I'd love to visit! Such wonderful scenery :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful hike. So much to see and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos from your hike!
