Altitude Illustration

For Our World Tuesday this week, I thought a visual illustration of the altitude at which we live might be amusing. Here's a contact-lens-solution bottle packed at our house and brought to Palm Springs (California), only a few hundred feet above sea level.
Notice how the extra air pressure has compressed the bottle, which was about 1/3 full. That's how much extra air there is near sea level compared to at our house!

  1. When this happens I'm always grateful it wasn't a full bottle=)

  2. That's amazing! And what a great example of what a difference the altitude makes! Very clever, Al!! I would never have thought of that! Hope you and Socks have a great week and beautiful weather1 Enjoy!

  3. Well captured. Great pictorial example of air pressure. Had no idea that happened at such a low altitude. Have only ever noticed it on aircraft. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Wow. I never put together why some of my stuff collapsed when we moved from Colorado Springs to Oregon!

And then there was the time we went to the top of Pikes Peak ... forgetting we had 4 soda cans under the seat of the truck. They all exploded when we came back down! Yikes!!!
