Skywatch Friday - Lightning at Night

Captured after dark with a 47-second exposure. This was one bolt of lightning that struck to the right of where the camera was pointed, as you can see by the shadows on the houses. The tree it hit exploded but luckily didn't catch fire.

  1. This is a fantastic photo! I like the fringe of lightning and lavender in the sky. I cannot imagine seeing a tree explode! I'm glad it didn't catch fire or you would need more than our rain! Which I would love to send to you, by the way. :)

  11. Wonderful capture, particularly with the extra light from the side. Lightening can be a frightful experience, we have had our chimney pots blasted off as well as the telephone next to our bed fried.

capture lightening strikes. Just shows how one should not stand under a tree in a storm!

  26. Incredible capture.
You won't find me capturing lightning strikes. Twice,I've been in the house when it struck and took part of the roof off. Nope, I won't be photographing lightning anytime soon.
