Cog Railroad Tracks

Continuing with more photos from our trip up the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, I bet there aren't many railways in the world that look like this.
The steepness of the tracks doesn't show up in the photos, but the beauty does.
Eventually the tracks climb above treeline, and keep going up and up.
At these elevations it's arctic tundra, despite a similar latitude to Lisbon.
If you look carefully you can see the railway line zig-zagging from the right to the left as it climbs.
And that's my high-altitude entry for Our World Tuesday.

  11. Wow! Such a fantastic railway! As I know steepness never show up in the photos, and you said so, I suddenly am able to see it, veeery steep!
Yeah, I guess there are not many of these in the world. Fun, as just yesterday I watched a tv program about a steep railway up in the mountains in a country in Africa, I guess it was Eritrea. Now I get the same feeling, when watching your photos - I would never be able to manage going by train in such a steepness..! :))

  13. Really quite a bit about Alaska reminded us of Colorado; we thought of this place while we were there...the tundra and of course the mountains. We didn't take the train to the top -- our CO son drove. (Like always, he loves the mountain roads).
